The other way my fiancee and I were walking down the Robson st. where we spotted a flee of paparazzi probably standing by for some celebrities shootings. Then my fiancee reminded me that the twilight actor, Robert Pattison is in town for shooting the upcoming twilight sequel, moonlight. She was really curious to see whether those paparazzi are actually waiting for him to snatch some photos. Right there I found an opportunity to put twitter at test to see if anybody in town is actually talking about this. So I pulled out my iPhone and pointed the browser to search.twitter.com. A simple google-search like interface comes up so I entered his name and pressed the search button. To my surprise I found tons of tweets from people in Vancouver who have sighted the actor and the location they had seen him. Although I didn’t find any tweets regarding the paprazzi, but I felt like I’ve found something bigger instead.

I realized that I treated search.twitter.com the same way I treat Google to search for information. That felt so natural as if we I am searching using Google. The difference was that twitter search offers real-time data generated by everybody as opposed to Google that only searches the indexed data available on the web. I found this real time search very powerful in terms of finding news relative to me and my precise Geo-Location. I think an integration of Google search engine with the twitter real-time conversions can offer search results that far more targeted, hence and more usable.

For the past 18 months Peerglobe Technology and rmdStudio have been collaboratively working on developing Anahita Social Engine.

Anahita Social Engine is a social web platform based on Google Open Social that allows developers to easily build anything with a social context. You might immediately think about social networks, however social networks are just one of many examples of web applications with a social context. Other good examples are Social Intranets, Social Project Managements and many more.

In a nutshell Anahita Social Engine provides core social services out of the box such as

Registration & Authentication

User profiles

Privacy Controls

User activities and news feed

Social Graphs

System wide messaging such as public and private message, notifications and emails

Moreover Anahita Social Engine provides Deep Integrations and many hooks for the third party application to fuse themselves into the social engine. Some of these integration points are

Profile Gadget Box

Canvas Page

User Activities and News feed

Email and Notifications

Requests

Privacy Control

In addition there are many more tools provided by the Social Engine that would let the developer to focus more on building their application and less on building supportive libraries. Some of these tools are

Taxonomy and Folksonomy support libraries

Virtual File Systems - supports Local , Amazon S3 File System. It can also be extended to support any custom file systems.

and many more

Anahita Social Engine has been built as a Joomla Extension. However it uses Nooku MVC framework (codename Koowa). Nooku is an agile MVC development framework with rich database interaction support. Nooku framework has been built by the folks at Joomlatools who were once the core Joomla developers and the major contributors to that project. Nooku framework is installed as plug-in on Joomla and it is capable of upgrading most of the Joomla core functionality but maintaining the compatibility for the third party Joomla extensions.

At the time Anahita Social Engine is not available publicly ( public GPL release is few months away) however we are already deploying solutions for clients, and for those who hire us, we include and distribute their names around the globe with every copy of Anahita technology which is being downloaded.

Meanwhile you can follow us for more updates on twitter at

View this Slideshare to learn more about Anahita.

Here at Peerglobe Technology, I get a lot of inquiries from some clients with ambitious visions who want to make the next best thing on the web. There is nothing wrong to come up with next big thing on the web. In fact most of these ideas can pan out with positive results given that the tremendous resources they require are available.

But most of these ideas never reach the implementation phase since the resources they require are not very realistic and at the end we, the developers, are burdened with all the analysis efforts that we have put in with those clients.

So as an adivce to small software archictect companies, don’t get side tracked by these ambitious projects and clients. Find a small niche market and provide simple and small solutions to that market.

Simple solutions require lesser cost and time to develop, therefore you as a small company will collect higher profits. The more complicated a solution get, the more time and money it requires to see the end result.

I know - replace the traditional TV.

Instead of just playing short video clips uploaded by users, they can strike some deals with TV Networks to push some TV contents through youtube.

Every month, there are about 129 million people watch short video clips on youtube. Had youtube offered some subscription based rich contents, I would bet a good fraction of the total monthly viewers wouldn’t mind paying for those monthly afforable subscriptions since they are paying a lot more just for the basic cable.

You do the math a fraction of 129 million paying, lets say $5-$10 every month is a lot of money. I am not saying it’s the best solution but it’s definitely a start.
